Ukrainian Foreign Ministry protests Shoygu's visit to Crimea

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed outrage to Russia because of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu’s visit to the Crimea. According to Interfax-Ukraine, this was reported by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mariana Betsa.

“Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry is expressing a protest in connection with the presence of the Russian Minister of Defense on the sovereign territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, which includes the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, which wasn’t agreed with the Ukrainian side. The presence of Shoygu on the territory of Crimea is a blatant disregard by the Russian authorities of the state sovereignty of Ukraine,” she said.

According to her, this is another demonstrative violation by Russia of the UN Charter, the principles and norms of international law and a conscious disregard of international obligations.

Betsa also noted that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send the appropriate note of protest to the Russian Federation today.
