Ukrainian activists want to erect a statue of Ronald Reagan in Kiev
Ukrainians have requested that the Kiev City Council install a monument to the famous American anti-communist.
Activists in Kiev want to establish a monument to former US President, Ronald Reagan. The petition appeared on the website of the Kyiv City Council and was authored by Zablotskyi Marian Bogdanovich. As of the 19th of April, the petition has garnered 34 signatures.
The petitioners report that the majority of the monuments to Reagan were installed in 2011, and dedicated to the centenary of the 40th President of the United States. However, in Ukraine, the President at that time was Viktor Yanukovych, and the monument was not erected.
"Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was a friend of Ukraine, an outstanding world politician, anti-communist, and actor. From 1981 to 1989 he was the 40th President of the United States. At the request of the populace, a monument to Ronald Reagan has already been installed in such European cities as Warsaw, Budapest, Wroclaw, and Tbilisi. Last year there was a consideration to name the Moscow Bridge in Kiev after Ronald Reagan, however, another name was chosen." the authors of the petition said.
