Ukraine will sell electricity to Moldova

Moldovan company Energocom and Ukrainian DTEK Trading signed a contract for the supply of electricity from Ukraine to Moldova. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova.

The contract period covers April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018. The press service emphasized that Ukraine’s proposal of $50.2 per MWh was more attractive than Russia’s offer.

The Moldovan TPS (thermal power station), which participated in this tender, is located in Transnistria and owned by Russian Inter RAO. They first offered electricity at $58.5 per MWh and later lowered the price to $54.4.

The Ministry of Economy said that thanks to the contract with Ukraine it will be possible to save more than 300 million Moldovan leu ($20.56 million USD).

In January to February, Ukraine increased electricity exports by 37.2% or 263.9 million KWh compared to the same period in 2016 which totaled 972.5 million kWh.
