Ukraine to purchase Uranium from Australia

President Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine intends to purchase uranium from Australia. He said this in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on the evening of April 3.

"The corresponding agreement was signed with Australia in the framework of the Nuclear Security Summit, which will help to diversify the supply of nuclear fuel. We will now have not only Kazakh and Russian fuel but also Australian," Poroshenko said.

The President also noted the strengthening of nuclear safety of Ukraine.

"We also talked [at the Summit in the US] about the joint initiative, which will involve both Norway and Sweden, to improve the safety of our nuclear power plants and our nuclear security from physical security to cyber protection. The funding is being assigned for this. We definitely will take part in the development of these programs and ensure that nuclear safety in the Ukraine significantly improves," the Head of State added.

Recall, on March 31st, Ukraine and Australia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, in particular, the supply of uranium.
