Ukraine signed cross-border cooperation agreements with four EU countries

During the third meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council, Ukraine signed cross-border cooperation agreements with four neighboring countries of the EU, Evropeyskaya Pravda reported.

Stepan Kubiv, who is both the First Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, signed the draft agreement on behalf of the Ukrainian side, and the European Commission's Director General for the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Christian Danielson, signed on behalf of the EU.

The projects entitled "Ukraine - Poland - Belarus 2014-2020", "Ukraine - Romania 2014-2020", "Black Sea basin 2014-2020" and "Ukraine - Hungary - Slovakia - Romania 2014-2020" are funded by the European Union.

The total budget of those programs is 402 million euros, to which the EU’s contribution amounts to 366 million euros and the partner country’s to the 10% of the EU’s contribution.

In the framework of the agreements, the following areas will be financed: improvement of the infrastructure of border regions, environmental protection and efficient use of natural resources, border management and border security, management in the field of migrations entrepreneurship, the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, local culture, common challenges in the field of security and law enforcement.

Recently, the head of the Ukrainian Mission to the European Union, Mykola Tochytskyi, stated that around a dozen agreements are expected to be signed at the meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council.
