Ukraine sends group of doctors to examine Nadiya Savchenko

According to the Consul of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don, Vitaliy Moskalenko, a group of three Ukrainian doctors have been sent to Russia in order to examine the condition of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, as reported by Glavnoe.

“Urgent measures have been carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President, a group of doctors who examined her before has been identified. I think they will arrive tomorrow in Rostov,” censor.net quoted him as saying.

Moskalenko said that the doctors must first receive permission from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they will be allowed to see Savchenko. The Consul himself will visit the imprisoned Ukrainian citizen on Monday or Tuesday.

Savchenko declared a dry hunger strike starting March 3rd after the Donetsk City Court in the Rostov region announced that she would not be given a chance to make her final closing statement during a hearing.

Nadiya Savchenko has been charged with the murder of two Russian journalists as well as charges of attempted murder of members of the separatists group and of illegally crossing the Russian border.  It is widely believed that Savchenko was in fact captured by Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) separatists in eastern Ukraine and was illegally transported to Russia, where the case was fabricated against her.
