Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria discuss possibility of creating joint army brigade
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, discussed the possibility of creating a joint military brigade with Romania and Bulgaria during his visit to Bucharest.
“We have discussed the possibility of creating a Ukrainian-Romanian-Bulgarian brigade based on the model of the Ukrainian-Lithuanian-Polish brigade, as we have had a very positive experience implementing that agreement, during the President of Bulgaria’s visit to Kiev and in today’s negotiations. I’m sure that such steps will strengthen the security and trust in the region and all over Europe,” Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, in Bucharest.
The agreement on the creation of the multinational Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian brigade was signed in September 2014. The main tasks of the brigade will be participation in international efforts in guaranteeing world peace, enhancing regional military cooperation and the establishment of the EU brigade combat team.
This brigade will include: 545 Ukrainian servicemen, 350 Lithuanian servicemen and 3,500 Polish servicemen. Eighteen Ukrainian officers became members of the leadership structure of Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade.
