Ukraine extends sanctions against companies and citizens who support Russian policy
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine released the decision to extend economic sanctions and restrictive measures against companies and citizens who pose a threat to the national interests of Ukraine. The corresponding Resolution Number 639 was published on the government’s website.
“The decision invites a strengthening of the sanctions policy by extending the list of individuals and entities that contribute to or finance terrorism and pose a threat to the national interests, national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The imposition of sanctions against the aggressor is one of the effective, key instruments of our State and international community to counter armed aggression of the Russian Federation, cynical disregard and violation of principles and norms of international law and inter-state relations,” the note explained.
The document doesn’t specify individuals and companies that can be subject to restrictive measures or the extension of its validity period. However, it mentioned that the corresponding proposals were submitted to the National Security and Defense Council for consideration.
The policy of personal and corporate sanctions has been applied by Ukrainian authorities since 2014 because Kyiv believes that Russia has pursued a policy of aggression. Sanctions are approved by the National Security and Defense Council and decree of the President of Ukraine.
