Ukraine exported $2 billion of IT services in 2015

Exports of Ukrainian IT services, particularly software development made more than $2 billion in 2015, making IT the third largest export in the country, as reported by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on Administrative, Social and Economic Reforms, Dmytro Shymkiv, UKRINFORM reports.

"Few people are talking about it, but in 2015, the export of IT services, in particular software from Ukraine, was $2 billion, which made this the third largest export," Shymkiv said.

He also stressed that the IT sector is one of the largest sources of tax revenue in Ukraine. "Last year, the Top 100 IT companies in Ukraine paid 820 million hryvnias in taxes [approximately $33 million]. Together with medium-sized companies and freelancers, this figure reaches UAH 5 billion [approximately $200 ml]," Shymkiv said.

According to officials, the Ukranian IT industry is one of the most attractive sectors for foreign investment. "It is estimated that last year the IT sector of Ukraine received $132 million in investments, with 46% of these funds being foreign investments. This figure is approximate, as investors are reluctant to disclose the amount of their agreements. Thus, the actual amount of such investments may be much higher," Shymkiv said.

As it was previously reported, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine intends to allow electronic contracts with IT specialists and freelancers.
