Ukraine begins criminal proceedings over power bridge between Russia and Crimea

A criminal case is being investigated under the article ‘Violation of the order of entry in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and departure from it.’

As was reported by the General Prosecutor’s office to the weekly Tyzhden, the Security Service of Ukraine, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kherson region, has started criminal proceedings based on the construction of a power bridge to Crimea by Chinese vessel JIAN JI 3001.

"Despite the existing ban, the Chinese vessel JIAN JI 3001 has entered the closed Kerch sea port which violates the ban on entering the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine with the purpose of causing harm to the interests of the State," the General Prosecutor’s office said.

A criminal case has been initiated under the article ‘violation of the order of entry in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.’ The pre-trial investigation is still continuing.

Meanwhile, as reported by Tyzhden, the proceedings in respect to the construction of the Kerch power bridge from Russia to Crimea have not been started. The Prosecutor’s office informed that they have sent letters to several agencies "to address this issue.”

After transmission towers in Ukraine were blown up on 22 November last year, a State of Emergency was declared on the peninsula. Russia has launched four lines of the power bridge and since 2016 has refused Ukrainian electricity.
