Russian Air Force to receive next-generation bombs

The chief executive officer of Techmash, Sergei Rusakov, reported that Russia’s Aero Space Force will soon receive next-generation air bombs equipped with proximity fuzes. According to him, tests of the fuze developed by Techmash’s Electronic Instruments R&D Institute in Novosibirskhave have passed successfully.

“Currently, the institute is preparing for the launch of the product into serial production. I think that this new generation of air bombs will enter into service with the Russian Army in the very near future,” Rusakov said. The Techmash press service noted that the new air bomb significantly improves upon the munitions with contact fuzes that are currently operational in the Russian Aero Space Force.

“During an explosion with a contact fuze, the larger part of the blast energy is spent on creating a crater and destroying the soil, which reduces the radius of damage inflicted on the enemy and thus produces a lower effect of using the munition,” Techmash explained.
