Putin: Situation in Afghanistan is cause for concern

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said that the situation in Afghanistan raises serious concerns, so drastic action is needed to deal with terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, as stated in his interview with RIA Novosti and the Indian news agency IANS.

"The situation within the territory between India and Russia remains tense. In particular, there remain concerns over the situation in Afghanistan. Drastic actions are needed to help the country to cope with challenges and threats such as terrorism, extremism, and illegal drug trafficking," he said.

He also added that Russia and India agree to support the national reconciliation efforts "based on the principles of international law."

"In broad terms — our country is eager to develop forms of interaction in the region which would allow us to respond quickly to emerging security challenges, and conduct joint actions to relieve potential threats," Putin said.
