Poroshenko: US-Ukrainian radar system was installed in Mariupol

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced that in Mariupol, a new system of early detection was established to control the border.

"A good example of how we are moving forward is an updated technical observation post in Mariupol. It is equipped with the newest system of early detection, prevention and identification of targets. We can detect any air or water target. We can even detect a swimmer. This AEROS system, a joint Ukrainian and the United States project, has been manufactured by Ukroboronprom state enterprise thanks to the assistance and investments of our American partners,” he stated.

This system is capable of identifying 200 targets simultaneously, allowing Ukrainian forces to improve the effectiveness of their response at the border.

"Two and a half years ago, we had been absolutely blind and had no such information. Today, we are in control of the security of our borders at the distance up to 50 km in each direction,” Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko stated that Ukraine is going to manufacture five more such complexes. They will be integrated into a single state data system of detection and analysis of water and air activity in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, as well as in the basins of the Dnieper and the Danube rivers.

In autumn 2015, the first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleg Gladkovsky negotiated the supplies of border control systems designed by American company Aeros.
