Poroshenko is ready to propose changes to Ukraine's constitution concerning Crimean Tatar autonomy
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, is ready to propose changes to the Constitution of Ukraine that concern granting the Crimean Tatars autonomy in the Crimea.
"I am ready to introduce several amendments to the Constitution, including those regarding the issue of Crimean Tatar autonomy. The format of this autonomy will be proposed to me by the Constitutional Commission, with the participation of representatives of the Crimean Tatar people," Petro Poroshenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday.
Poroshenko noted that this issue should not be delayed. "I think that this should be done in the near future. We must not delay on this issue ... any delay will not be the President’s fault. The President is ready to introduce the proposed amendment. It is extremely important for us to find 300 votes in the hall of the Verkhovna Rada for this, and that’s where we all have to work," the head of the state said.
