Polish state-owned company begins delivering gas to Ukraine

Polish State gas company PGNiG announced on Thursday, August 4, 2016 that it will begin to deliver gas to industrial consumers as part of an agreement with a private Ukrainian gas supplier, Eru Trading. Details about volumes and terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

According to Reuters, Poland and Ukraine, which depend on natural gas supplies from Russia, intend to expand the exchange between the gas transportation systems to 5-8 billion cubic meters of gas from the current 1.5 billion cubic meters.

Earlier it was reported that Poland intends to send gas to Ukraine after the launch of the first LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea in 2016. Currently, gas is supplied to Ukraine mainly from Slovakia, but also in smaller quantities from Poland and Hungary.

On the 28th of June, 2016 the Russian Minister of Energy, Alexander Novak, said that in order to successfully make it through the winter, Ukraine needs 9-10 billion cubic meters of gas, and without Russia, they will not be able to do so. However, delivery of gas from Russia to Ukraine has not been done in over eight months.
