Peskov: Putin and Trump could meet in July

The meeting of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could take place at the G20 summit in Hamburg in July, said Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary to the Russian president.

“If we don’t arrange an earlier summit, their meeting presumably could take place at the G20 summit in Hamburg in July, because this is the first place where their paths could cross,” Peskov said in a CNN interview.

Responding to a question on what the first meeting of the two leaders could be, the press secretary said that “they will just talk to each other”. According to Peskov, “it’s important that they sit next to each other and start to talk”.

Earlier the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that preparation for a meeting of Putin and Trump had already started, although nothing is known about its date and time. According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Ryabkov, this matter came up in the first discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary Rex Tillerson.
