Newt Gingrich claims the US would sell weapons to Ukraine if Trump becomes president

If Donald Trump is elected U.S. President, the issue on the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine could be unlocked and an option of arms sales with deferred payments could be offered, the former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, stated in an interview with European Pravda. Gingrich made the assertion response to the question on how U.S. policy toward Ukraine will change in case of Trump’s victory.

“We can say for sure that President Trump will unlock the issue on provision of weapons to Ukraine. Donald Trump can say pleasant things about Putin but in the meantime he will sell weapons to Ukraine,” Gingrich said. “It will be precisely selling and I think that the deferral of payments will be offered to Ukraine,” the former Speaker added.

According to him, if Hillary Clinton is elected U.S. President, she would act the same way as Obama, which means refusing to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine. “I’m sure that the Ukrainian people have the right to defend themselves and their native land. In general, the policy of supporting Ukraine’s independence only in words without provision of modern weapons for protection is a loss for the United States.”

“Everything should be different when Trump is elected,” Gingrich added. Newt Gingrich is one of the most influential representatives of the Republican Party and the fiercest critic of the current U.S. President, Barack Obama. Gingrich has also maintained close ties to Trump, the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States.
