Mejlis regional building attacked in Simferopol

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars’ regional building was attacked by unknown assailants in Simferopol.  This was posted on Facebook by a member and coordinator of the Mejlis, Eskender Bariev.  According to him, unknown suspects smashed the glass in the building, which is located on Chekhov Street.

According to the Krym.Realii news portal, Crimean authorities continue their attempts to ban any and all activities of the Mejlis.  Because of this, international human rights organizations fear the mass persecution of the Crimean Tatars.

The Vice-Premier of the Crimean government, Ruslan Baalbek, told RIA Novosti that the ownership of the main office of the Mejlis had been transferred to the state.  In the future, it will be passed on to the Crimean Tatar Ethnographic Museum.  According to Baalbek, the main office on Schmidt Street was initially illegally transferred to Crimea by Ukraine.  The Sevastopol Court of Appeal has since resolved this dispute.

Crimean authorities have filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of the Republic to ban all activities of the Mejlis on the peninsula.  The next court hearing is scheduled for the 10th of March.
