Media: Security Service of Ukraine has prohibited Gorbachev from entering the country

The former General Secretary of the Sovet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has been banned from entering Ukraine. This was stated by a source in the Security Service of Ukraine, as reported by 112 Ukraine.

According to the information received, the politician is banned from entering the country for five years. This was after Gorbachev, during an interview with The Sunday Times, said that Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol was the right decision.

After the interview was published, the People's Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Anton Gerashchenko, sent an application to the SSU and the Foreign Minister to forbid Gorbachev from entering Ukraine. He also asked the EU to consider banning the former president from entering the territory of the EU.

Gorbachev responded by saying that he “doesn’t care about such squabbles”. When asked if he was afraid of possibly being banned from entering Ukraine, he responded “I don’t travel there and I won’t travel there”. He also said that he has no plans to visit Crimea.
