Lutsenko: Ukrainian Verkohvna Rada will vote on Shokin's resignation on Tuesday

The resignation of the Prosecutor General, Viktor Shokin, will be voted on this Tuesday, March 29, 2016 according to a statement made by the head of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc "Solidarity" (PPB) Party, Yuriy Lutsenko, on the Inter TV channel, as reported by the Press Service of the Party.

Lutsenko indicated that Shokin "having lost the public support, wrote his resignation." "He resigned and this resignation will be voted upon on Tuesday. The President will be ready to appoint the next candidate according to his authority immediately after the vote on the resignation,” Lutsenko said.

According to Lutsenko, Shokin "has done a lot for the Prosecutor’s Office and has started its reforms. But this ossified system is too difficult to change from the inside. The reform of this system can't be done by anyone who was a Prosecutor," the leader of the PPB faction said.

In his opinion, the reform of the Prosecutor's Office should be undertaken by a person who has the personal and political courage to break this interconnected system of mutual cover-ups.

According to Lutsenko, he plans to prepare draft legislation by which the General Prosecutor of Ukraine can legally, through the Inspector General, "clean out the ranks of corrupt officials…[and] appoint a new Prosecutor General who will be supported by society."
