Kiev: Ukraine will continue to defend itself against Russia, guided by international law
Ukraine will continue to implement all necessary steps in accordance with international law to counter aggression from Russia, restore its territorial integrity and be compensated for the losses inflicted by these illegal actions, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the occasion of the second anniversary of the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"The resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations remains a key tool for the freeing of the Crimea, and Ukraine counts on the continued support of the international community in the restoration of the territorial integrity of our country within its internationally recognized borders," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
"During the last two years of illegal occupation the large-scale oppression of human rights by Russia in the Crimea has been continuing, especially against the Crimean Tatars - the indigenous people of Crimea," the statement reads.
The Ministry noted that "Moscow's illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as the military invasion of the Ukrainian Donbas, is a persistent violation of international law."
On March 27, 2014, at the session of the UN General Assembly, 100 countries voted in favor of the adoption of the resolution on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Eleven countries, led by Russia, voted against the decision.
