Joint exercises involving Romania, Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia begin
On September 19, in Romania’s northeastern Satu Mare county on the Someș river, about 30 km southeast from the Ukrainian border, the Blonde Avalanche 2016 joint military exercises started, with participation from servicemen from Romania, Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia.
As reported by a correspondent from Radio Svoboda, Ukrainian participants are practicing tasks related to the elimination of consequences of disaster and minimization of losses as part of an international joint pontoon-bridge battalion.
The schedule includes command and deployment exercises conducted at the training camp near Mărtinești.
According to Hungarian internet-portal Szatmár.ro, during the exercises a joint battalion will build a pontoon crossing across the Someș river.
Due to flood risks in basins of the Tisza and Danube rivers, Romania, Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia hold the Blonde Avalanche exercises annually.
