Instead of Yanukovych, his lawyer will come to the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office for examination

The attorney for exiled former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, will appear at the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office instead of the former President, TASS reported.

"The defense will appear for this summon to fulfill procedural obligations and will notify the Court of the reasons that prevent Yanukovych from appearing personally," Serdyuk assured.

He also stated that Article 138 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine provides the option to not appear in Court when summoned by the investigator should there be extenuating circumstances such as long stays abroad or the existence of personal threats.

The defense also intends to file another application with the General Prosecutor’s Office related to threats to Yanukovych’s life. "With these summons for questioning and a number of other procedural violations, the General Prosecutor’s Office does it best to help the defense to do its job," Serdyuk stated.

The Main Military Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine summoned Yanukovych for questioning and to address the charges of high treason on the 27th and 30th of January.
