IMF says it is ready to help Ukraine implement reforms
Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman and the Director of the IMF's European Department, Poul Thomsen, discussed the further cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF.
"At hard times like this, support is of utmost importance for Ukraine, especially the support of the IMF. But we also consider our cooperation as an opportunity to implement structural reforms which will make it possible to transform Ukraine from a post-Soviet state into a modern European country," Groysman stated during the meeting with Thomsen on Tuesday, as the press service of the Cabinet reports.
The Prime Minister noted that the new Ukrainian Government will stay loyal to the chosen course of implementing and accelerating reforms in the country, in particular, customs reforms, taxation reforms, ensuring transparency in public administration by public appointment of the management of State enterprises, improving the public procurement system and conducting public and open privatization.
"We consider implementing these reforms to be our internal homework, and the IMF is a strategic partner who helps through these hard times,” Groysman emphasized.
He stated that together with the Strategic Advisory Reform Support Group co-chaired by the Presidential Adviser and former Polish Prime Minister, Leszek Balcerowicz, and the head of the group of advisers of the Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister, Ivan Mikloš, the Government will be working on the development of an operational action plan which will be presented in the near future.
Thomsen, in turn, welcomed the formation of the new Government and assured the readiness of the IMF to support Ukraine in implementing the necessary changes.
