Russia's National Guard Troops to be provided with the ADS assault rifle capable of firing under water
Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Russia and soldiers of the Federal National Guard Troops service will receive a new weapon in 2018 equipped for firing under water and on land, as reported by Russia's Federal News Agency, referring to the head of the Central Design Research Bureau of sporting and hunting weapons, Aleksey Sorokin.
“There are already contracts, orders made by the Russian Defense Ministry, the Federal Security Service of Russia, the Federal National Guard Troops service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Mass production will be organized starting next year,” he said, noting that in order to change shooting mode in other environments, a minimum series of manipulations is required.
According to him, the matter is not about a fundamentally new weapon but about modifying the ADS advanced dual-environment assault rifle. Ergonomics changes have been made in its design. The old model required a soldier to keep a number of parts on hand when switching from water to land. In the new version of the ADS, all adjustments are fixed. The switch to the special bullet is made by simply replacing the magazine.
The new product developed and produced by the Tula Instrument Design Bureau hits targets equally effectively from both under water and on land. Unlike foreign underwater weapons firing needle bullets which are stable in water but start to deviate from the target on land, unique ADS munitions keep their accuracy in both environments.
