Dzhemilev: The de-occupation of Crimea must be discussed during negotiations on Ukraine
The leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev, believes that the issue of the de-occupation of Crimea cannot be of less importance then other topics during the international negotiations on the situation in Ukraine. The politician said this at a press conference in Kyiv on April 6, Krym.Realii reported.
"The Minsk Agreements don't say a word about the aggressor withdrawing completely from the occupied territories. So the de-occupation of Crimea is omitted from these agreements. From our perspective, this is wrong," Dzhemilev said. He stressed that sanctions against Russia shouldn’t be lifted or relaxed "until not even one square meter of our territory is still occupied by the Russian Federation."
According to Dzhemilev, one of the main activities of Russian authorities in Crimea is their confrontation with the Mejlis, which represents the Crimean Tatar people. He reminded the press that the court will resume hearings on April 7th and will try to ban the Mejlis in the Crimea.
According to Dzhemilev, the overall situation in Crimea can be described as an atmosphere of fear where people are afraid to talk to each other, distrust each other and write denunciations. This situation resembles the period around 1937, the rule of Beria - not the best years of the Soviet regime, he said.
