The US strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) believes that the Russian Federation is developing weapons to use against satellites, as stated by the Commander of USSTRATCOM, General John Hyten, RIA Novosti reports.

“Russia is researching significant military capabilities to use against satellites including lasers and other military capabilities in space which may pose a threat to our satellites,” Hyten stated.

According to General, the use of such weapons may lead to a large number of debris in orbit and this, in turn, will hinder the movement of space equipment. Moreover, according to Hyten, China continues to test their own defense systems “in a wide range of orbits.”

“In the near future, they (Russia and China) will be able to use their capabilities to threaten any devices in space. We should prevent this, and the best way to prevent war is to be ready for war. That is what the United States will do,” the Commander of USSTRATCOM concluded.
