Bellingcat unveils new evidence of Russian military presence in Ukraine

The Google Earth search engine unveiled satellite images that show the situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine on August 26, 2014, during the peak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

These satellite images show the deployment of Russian military vehicles and artillery weaponry, as well as newly laid tracks to Ukraine. The dates of these satellite images coincide with a major surge in Russian activity in Ukraine near the border crossings, including when Russian soldiers were seen in the Ukrainian villages of Kumachove and Ulyanivsk, which are located ten kilometers from the border.

This was reported by Bellingcat, a volunteer organization engaged in investigative journalism that earlier provided evidence of the presence of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine. Earlier, with the help of video documentation, volunteers from Bellingcat identified how a Russian Buk missile launcher destroyed the Malaysia Airlines passenger flight in July 2014.

Bellingcat, basing their assumptions on the results of the investigations, claimed that the Boeing-777 was hit by a missile fired from a Russian Buk missile system, which is assigned to the 53rd air defense missile brigade from the Kursk.
