137 print media entities are subject to de-communization in Ukraine

The State Committee for Television and Radio-broadcasting of Ukraine (SCTRU) has demanded that 137 print media entities be renamed within de-communization process, the press service of SCTRU reported. These include 25 companies in Crimea and on the territory of the so-called DPR and LPR that are subject to de-communization.

56 newspapers and magazines had not responded to the requests of the agencies of the Ministry of Justice on implementation of legal requirements. Four took measures for re-registration and another four are already re-registered. In addition, 21 print media institutions have been denied certificates, while the certificates of 10 others are no longer valid. Three were declared invalid and 25 newspapers and magazines are beyond the control of state.

“In fact, legal grounds for cancellation of state registration have also been established in relation to 67 print media or 49% of the total number of them. Currently, the Ministry of Justice is preparing an appeal in court,” the statement reads.

On a per-region basis, Donetsk has the largest number of print media that are subject to the de-communization process. There are 44 newspapers and magazines in that region followed by Lugansk with 22, Kiev with 12, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with 10, Odessa with 7 and Kharkiv with 6.

Meanwhile, there are no print media that are subject to de-communization in Vinnitsa region, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Chernigiv, Ternopol and Rivne. The Governor of Kharkiv region, Ihor Rainin, recently announced the completion of de-communization in Kharkiv.
