Kremlin: Putin has no plans to meet Trump in Osaka

Responding to a question from journalists about a possible meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Japan, the Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the preparation for it has not yet been initiated.

"We have not planned the meeting; we did not talk about the meeting" — TASS quotes Peskov.

At the same time, the Press Secretary of the President said that Putin's meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is due to arrive in Sochi on 13-14 May, is possible. Peskov stressed that the head of the United States Secretary of State would hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, but the meeting with Putin is also possible.

Earlier, it was reported that Lavrov and Pompeo agreed to meet in Sochi during the talks in Finland on May 6. This will be the first trip to Russia for the US Secretary of State.

Over the past year, Pompeo has only spoken to the Russian Foreign Minister twice. They first met in June last year in Helsinki, where Putin held talks with Trump. The second time was last week in Rovaniemi, where the Ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council was held.
