Head of Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s office: US is concerned over tensions between Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Prosecutor’s General Office

The US State Department supports Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies and is extremely unhappy with the conflict between the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), stated  the Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), Nazar Kholodnytsky.

"The first key message we heard from the US State Department was, "We support you 1000 %." These are their exact words. Their second statement is that all conflicts should be resolved through legal means," Kholodnytsky said in an interview with Ukrainian TSN,published on Sunday evening, December 10th.

"The third one says that if there are criminal offenses in the prosecutors’ actions, then they should be investigated and referred to the court, or the proceedings must be closed. And similarly, if NABU detectives or SAP prosecutors have committed any illegal actions, they also should be held liable, but only according to the results of an objective and independent investigation. The court must have the final say," the prosecutor added, stressing that the US was unhappy with the situation surrounding the NABU.

Kholodnytsky noted that if the conflict between law enforcement authorities escalates into a war, it will lead to extremely negative consequences for Ukraine.

"There are victims in every war. I do not want to talk about victims. The victim will finally be the entire country," warned the Head of SAP.
