Belarusian President Lukashenko urges CIS leaders to support new Ukrainian government
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko urged the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to support the new Ukrainian government, reports the Belarusian BelTA news agency.
"Recently, we spoke about Ukraine. I want to express my position because both the Russian President [Putin] and I are very concerned about the situation in Ukraine because it's happening so close to us. Speaking about the new Ukrainian government, I would like to urge you to support them. There is already a trend towards phasing out this authority, to overthrow it, but we have to understand who would come to power in Ukraine in such a scenario," said Lukashenko.
On October 4, during the Second Forum of the Regions of Ukraine and Belarus in Zhytomyr (Ukraine), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had the first meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.
On the day of their meeting, it became known that Belarus had released Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sharoyko, who was earlier arrested in Minsk, and Ukraine had released Belarusian citizen Yuriy Politiko, who was accused of gathering secret information for an "unspecified Belarusian government body",
