Italian Ambassador confirms his country's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity
Davide La Cecilia, Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, confirmed his country's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity at all international platforms.
He made this statement during his meeting with Olena Zerkal, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine on European integration, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.
The Italian diplomat was invited to this meeting for explanations in connection with statements by the Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini regarding Ukraine.
“Italy’s stance on supporting the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine is clear and consistent, as was officially announced by Italy at all international platforms, including the recent events that took place in the framework of the EU, NATO and the G7”, the ambassador said.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Ukraine expects that Italy will continue contributing to the preservation of the European Union’s united position on supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
In an interview to the Washington Post, the Interior Minister of Italy said that the annexation of Crimea was legitimate and the Revolution of Dignity was fake. The British Financial Times had earlier called Italy’s new government pro-Russian and anti-European.
