Ukrainian and Moldovan border guards begin joint border control

Ukraine and Moldova have begun joint protection of the Ukrainian-Moldovan boundary bordering Transdniestria, as reported on the the State Border Service’s website.

"On December 7, for the first time, joint patrols of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi detachment began on a section of the Velyka Kisnytsya department, and continued along the ‘green’ border, guarded by the the Studena and Bolhan subdivisions. These units are guarding the state border of Ukraine with Transdniestria for a length of about 50 km," the report says.

It is noted that joint patrols on the central section of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border (the so-called “Transdniestrian segment”) involving the participation of Moldovan border guards is "a new form of border protection that is aimed at counteracting cross-border crime."

The border guards are trained and have mastered the legal and practical subtleties of implementing this type of border patrol.

The State Border Service also noted that joint patrols are taking place exclusively from the Ukrainian side.

Moldova closed the roads to cars with Transdniestrian license plates over the summer.
