Trump congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day

President of the United States Donald Trump sent congratulations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine to President Petro Poroshenko, said the press service of the head of the Ukrainian state on Thursday.

"On behalf of the American nation, I want to congratulate you and the people of Ukraine on the 27th anniversary of your independence to be celebrated on August 24," stated the message.

"The United States Government will continue to work with Ukraine and support efforts in strengthening democratic institutions, developing the rule of law, fighting corruption and stimulating economic growth." The people of Ukraine have something to be proud of: for four years Ukraine has been bravely opposing Russian aggression and blessed with vibrant civil society, growing economy and the Armed Forces that are more powerful than ever, " said Trump.

The U.S. President emphasised: "Please remember that the United States will always stand alongside Ukraine, while it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders."

The U.S. President wished Ukraine a peaceful, prosperous and successful year.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron sent his congratulations on Ukraine’s Independence Day.
