Washington: military assistance to Ukraine will be provided if Kyiv follows through with the reforms
US military assistance will be provided to Kyiv, subject to progress in key reforms of the Ukrainian defense sector, including the introduction of civilian control over the military, stated Republican Senator Rob Portman, reports Voice of America.
Portman explained what kind of assistance to Ukraine is embodied in the bill. According to him, it is the first time that defense assistance to Ukraine can be granted for strengthening protection at sea. It envisages the provision of air and coastal defense radars, mine and anti-mine equipment and offshore and shore-based facilities.
The bill also greatly increases the possibility of assistance for the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian troops. The bill also assumes US assistance in covering medical and other costs related to caring for the Ukrainian military as well as medical training of Ukrainian personnel.
It was reported earlier that the United States defense budget for 2018 that provides for $350 million of security assistance to Ukraine was sent to the President of the United States, Donald Trump for his signature.
