Russia expels Polish scholar
The Institute of National Remembrance of Poland or IPN said that Polish scientist Henryk Glebocki, who researched relations between Moscow and Warsaw in the 19th to 20th centuries, was expelled from Russia.
The institute's statement says that on November 24, 2017, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation detained Dr. Glebocki, who is a research fellow at the Jagiellonian University, in Moscow. The detainee was told that, according to the FSB decision from November 21, he must leave the territory of Russia within 24 hours.
Glebocki had been in Russia since November 14. From 1993, the scientist has been engaged in research in the field of Russian-Polish relations, to which he devoted several his scientific works.
"The decision of the Federal Security Service means denying access to the archives in Russia. This access is necessary to continue Dr. Glebocki’s research, which he has been conducting for almost a quarter of a century," the institute emphasized.
Glebocki himself is already in Poland. He told reporters that he refused to sign a document requiring him to leave Russia in the absence of representatives of the Polish embassy, however he returned to his homeland. The Russians have made no comments yet.
Earlier, it was reported that the Moldovan authorities expelled the Russian and South Ossetian military delegation from the country.
