Putin demands that shortcomings found in new military equipment in Syria be fixed

At a recent military-practical conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that the shortcomings of Russian armament that were discovered in the Syrian theater be immediately dealt with, TASS reported.

The President emphasized the problems with certain types of weapons and equipment used in the fighting. "I ask you to study this information carefully and make adjustments to the serial production process," he said. Putin noted that now that the work has already been carried out with some types of weapons, it would be necessary to fix the rest.

As reported by RIA Novosti news agency, the President also stressed that "if today we close our eyes to some shortcomings, tomorrow it will certainly affect the combat potential of the Armed Forces."  He further advocated for the constant improvement of their weapons capability and continuing creation of new, promising equipment models.

At the same time, Putin noted that more than 1,200 representatives from 57 enterprises of the defense industry complex and scientific organizations visited the military base in Khmeimim, as well as in the port of Tartus during the anti-terrorist operation. "Thanks to their work, 99% of all identified malfunctions of military equipment and weapons were promptly eliminated," he said.

About certain problems and shortcomings revealed during the operation in Syria, Putin addressed military commanders and the leadership of the defense industry. He set the task to conduct "the most thorough investigation" to correct further directions in the development and improvement of military equipment.

Dmitry Peskov, the presidential press secretary, did not say what kind of problems Putin was talking about, noting that it was internal information. "Naturally, we are talking primarily about the functioning of weapons, the operation of certain technical means," he added.
