Putin's Aide Surkov says after meeting with US envoy on Ukraine Volker that situation in the Donbas does not suit anyone

The current situation in the Donbas does not suit either party to the conflict, nor the external forces that are facilitating the settlement, said Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov after a meeting with US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, reports Russian media.

"We agreed that the current situation in the southeast of Ukraine cannot satisfy neither the conflicting parties, nor the external forces that are contributing to the resolution.

The discussion was conducted in a tone of mutual respect and interest, honestly, seriously, without illusions and bias," Surkov noted.

According to Surkov, the commitment to the Minsk agreements "was not questioned" during the negotiations. "Both sides proposed fresh ideas and innovative approaches to their implementation," Surkov stressed.

It was earlier reported that the meeting in Minsk between Volker and Surkov had ended. The concrete results are not yet known, but it is clear that the parties discussed ways to resolve the conflict in the Donbas.
