US to help reform Ukrainian customs

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has discussed the launch of a needs-assessment mission in connection with the reform of the Ukrainian Customs Service during a meeting with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection delegation, as reported by the governmental press service on Wednesday.

Eleven experts from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection have arrived in Kyiv at the PM’s invitation to prepare for the reform of the Ukrainian Customs Service.

The needs-assessment mission will work in Ukraine until July 11th, after which an action plan for reforms will be created and its implementation will begin upon the results of the mission’s work.

Groysman promised his "personal political leadership in this process."

The Prime Minister said that the U.S. mission has been asked to quickly assess the real situation and needs of the Customs Service of Ukraine, to determine the tools required for its modernization, to establish the criteria for training and staff responsibilities and to work out an action plan for the reforms.

Groysman expressed hope that this action plan will be developed by mid-August, so that its practical implementation can begin at once.
