Ukrainian subsidiary of Sberbank will not provide services to clients using LPR or DPR passports

The subsidiary bank of Sberbank of Russia in Ukraine, PJSC Sberbank will not provide services to individuals and legal entities based on documents issued in territories beyond the control of the Ukrainian authorities, the bank said in response to a request from Interfax-Ukraine.

"PJSC Sberbank, being a Ukrainian commercial bank and carrying out its activities on the basis of a license issued by the NBU (The National Bank Of Ukraine), strictly observes the norms of Ukrainian legislation. The bank did not provide, does not provide, and does not intend to provide services to individuals and legal entities on the basis of documents issued in areas beyond the control of the Ukrainian authorities, and does not conduct financial transactions in these territories. The bank provides services to clients solely on the basis of documents that identify them in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation," the message says.

On March 7, the NBU stated that it would sanction the subsidiary of Sberbank in Ukraine if information confirms that the parent bank is ready to provide services to the holders of passports of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic.

Sberbank was formerly PJSC "Subsidiary Bank of Sberbank of Russia." Before that, it was known as the NRB Bank. It was founded in 2001 and its sole owner is Sberbank of Russia.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of January 1, 2017 it ranked sixth out of 93 banks operating in the country. In terms of assets, it is worth 48.356 billion hryvnia or $1.8 billion.
