Ukraine wants UN response to calls for peacekeepers in the Donbas

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Kislitsa, stated during his speech on the 10th of June at the UN Security Council that Ukraine holds the United Nations accountable for ignoring the direct request for the deployment of a peacekeeping mission in the Donbas, Ukrinform reported.

“It is difficult to explain the lack of response by the Council to the direct request concerning a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Donbas, whose presence in the field would ensure the additional protection of civilians and contribute to the end of violence,” Kislitsa said.

According to him, calls by the Ukrainian officials at the UN Security Council went unheard. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that civilians have paid the highest price in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

As previously reported, Ukraine, as a new non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, has requested the deployment of peacekeepers in the Donbas.
