Ukraine resumes exporting coal from the Donbas

Ukraine has resumed the export of A-Grade coal extracted from the uncontrolled territories of the Donbas and Luhansk regions

According to the State Statistics Service, as of February, Ukraine has officially resumed exporting small amounts of anthracite coal.

Coal is currently being exported to Poland and Moldova. In February, about 900 tons were exported; 830 of which was sent to Poland. In January, according to the State Statistics, no anthracite was exported.

According to Government Resolution № 1176 approved on 30 December 2015, the export of anthracite is subject to licensing. There is no official information about the companies that have started exporting anthracite.

Several coal traders informed Liga.net, that small volumes of anthracite are being exported by Bryankovskaya Coal Company, LLC (Mariupol), and Dobre Teplo, LLC (Mariupol). Both companies are on the list of coal recipients from DPR/LPR. Informmax, LLC (registered in Donetsk) is also currently exporting coal. The coal from the Ukrainian companies is being purchased by three Moldovan companies, ICS Megastroi, Poland K Investments SP and Puh Trans-Kon PiotrTodor.

As is known, A-grade coal (anthracite) is extracted solely in the uncontrolled territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. During the winter of 2014-2015, Ukraine faced a serious deficit of anthracite which is used at seven of the 14 power stations in the country.

During the winter of 2015-2016, the deficit was reduced. In 2015, according to the Ministry of Energy, about 8.5 million tons of anthracite was transferred from the Donbas.

As of April 15th, coal reserves at Ukrainian power plants amounted to 2,252,900 tons, 770,300 tons of which is anthracite coal.
