US Police say Lesin's death was caused by blunt-force head trauma
The results of a forensic medical examination of the body of the former high-ranking Russian official Mikhail Lesin were announced in Washington. He died from injuries inflicted on his head, Deutsche Welle reported.
The autopsy revealed that the cause of death of the former General Director of Gazprom-Media Holdings was intense, blunt-force, head injuries. This was announced by the representative of the Federal District of Columbia Police in the U.S. on Thursday, March 10th. The examination also revealed the presence of blunt traumas on the neck, torso, arms and legs, reported Reuters, referring to the statement of Washington’s chief forensic expert.
The exact method of Lesin’s death has not yet been determined. US authorities said that the police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death. Police found his body in the room of a hotel on Dupont Circle in Washington on November 5, 2015. Russia Today and RIA Novosti reported that the death was caused by a heart attack.
Mikhail Lesin was the head of the Ministry of Press in Russia from 1999 to 2004, and from 2004 to 2009 he served as adviser to the President of the Russian Federation. He later headed the Gazprom-Media holding company, which he left in 2014. He was also a founder of Russia Today.
