Turkey to help Ukraine set up radio and TV broadcasting in the Crimea

Turkey approved the frequencies for the Ukrainian TV and radio broadcasts which will be carried out from Henichesk district of Kherson region to the Crimea via a new telecommunication tower located near the Chonhar checkpoint at the administrative border of the Crimea, as reported by Ukrinform news agency.

"I want to say that Turkey is among the countries that have coordinated the approval of these frequencies and that it approved them too. They became our partner with regards to this issue," stated the member of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting Serhiy Kostinsky.

Previously Krym.Realii reported that the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting requested to allocate the frequencies for digital terrestrial broadcasting standard DVB-T2 from Chonhar to the territory of the annexed Crimea. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the National Council on December 1st. On December 2, the first block of telecommunication tower was laid. The tower will provide broadcasting on the territory of the Kherson region and the Crimea. It is expected that by the end of December the Crimeans will receive the round the clock broadcasting of four Ukrainian radio stations.

The National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting developed a draft strategy for the development of television and radio broadcasting in Kherson region as well as broadcasting to the territory of the annexed Crimea. The purpose of the strategy is to increase the coverage of the Kherson region with the analog and digital broadcasting, as well as to block the analog and digital broadcasting from the annexed territories in southern areas of Kherson region.
