The US may tighten sanctions on Russia

If aggression against Ukraine escalates, sanctions against Russia will be tightened. American policy regarding the Crimea will not be reconsidered no matter who wins the presidential elections in the USA.  Such statements were made in Kyiv by a delegation from the US Congress.

The US Congress is ready to increase the price that the Kremlin will have to pay if aggression against Ukraine continues. Such a message has been brought to Kyiv by the Delegation of American legislators.  Although the USA is in the middle of election campaign, Ukraine will be supported.

"Russia acts as an aggressor both in the Crimea and in the East of Ukraine. That’s why we try to keep the sanctions in effect. I’m convinced that if aggression is escalated, sanctions will be tightened. It will be the price that Russia will have to pay for its actions," Democratic Senator Chris Coons stated.

The Congressmen also recommend not to pay attention to some irresponsible statements of a candidate from the Republican Party Donald Trump.  In particular, the statements regarding his readiness to conduct negotiations with Putin on the status of the Crimea in the event of his election as the President of the United States.

"The policy of the United States is that we do not recognize the annexation of the Crimea by Russia. There is a strong agreement between both parties in the Congress to oppose any attempts to recognize this annexation. In my opinion, Donald Trump is just using poor election rhetoric which doesn’t reflect true positions of the absolute majority of the Congress.  And in the event of his election he will have to deal with us before taking any steps which run counter to American policy," Coons said.

The same view is shared by the Republicans. "We stand with the people of Ukraine and we all together have to hold the broad front against Putin’s aggression.  I stress that in the Congress there is indeed a strong cross-party consensus and, of course, in the Republican Party itself, on Putin’s aggression.  And America will remain unwavering  regarding the issue of sanctions as long as aggression in the east of Ukraine continues" Republic Charles Dent said.
