Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: US statement is tantamount to inviting terrorist attacks against Russia
According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, a recent statement made by US State Department spokesman John Kirby is tantamount to inviting terrorists to use weapons against Russia, TASS reported.
On Wednesday, Kirby stated that one of the consequences of the war in Syria could be possible extremist "attacks against Russian interests, perhaps even Russian cities."
"And Russia will continue to send troops home in body bags," he added.
Ryabkov, in turn, stated "We cannot interpret this as anything else apart from the current US administration's de facto support for terrorism.”
"Amid Washington’s inability to implement the agreements there have been unacceptable threats and attempts to place us in a position of being apologetic, additionally, ultimatums have been voiced. This is not a language that can be spoken to Russia,” Ryabkov said.
"These thinly disguised invitations to use terrorism as a weapon against Russia show the political depths the current US administration has stooped to in its approach to the Middle East and specifically to Syria,” the Deputy Foreign Minister added.
Ryabkov also noted that Moscow sees no alternative to the original US-Russia ceasefire, and that Washington should focus on implementing it.
According to him, Washington’s plan for a week-long ceasefire is unacceptable.
