Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: The US indirectly supports the so-called Islamic State

The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the U.S. indirectly supports the so-called Islamic State by imposing sanctions against defense enterprises cooperating with Syria.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Ryabkov, stated that Russia considers the new sanctions of the United States against five Russian defense enterprises as indirect support of terrorists.

“The desire of the White House to punish Russian enterprises that help Syrian people to fight against ISIS and other terrorist groups—how can that be interpreted? What else could it be but indirect support of terrorism?” said Ryabkov in a statement, published on the Foreign Ministry’s website.

As previously reported, the U.S. imposed sanctions against several dozen foreign companies for violating the law on non-proliferation in Iraq, North Korea and Syria. Five Russian enterprises were included in that category.
