Russia transfers marines from Caspian Sea to Crimea

Several divisions of marines from the Russian Caspian Flotilla have been transferred to the Crimea, Russian Interfax news agency reports with reference to the press service of the Southern Military District (SMD) of the Russian Armed Forces.

“The transfer of marines from the Caspian Flottilla was carried out in the context of a combat readiness check, announced by the commander of the SMD forces, general-colonel Aleksandr Dvornikov,” the press service stated.

According to the SMD of the Russian Armed Forces, the marines from the Caspian Flotilla were transferred for tactical activities to the Opuk training ground on the Black Sea coast in the eastern part of the Crimean peninsula.

“Under field conditions, the personnel of the marine division will work on the tasks of equipping firing positions, changing marshaling areas, organizing their systems of protection and defense,” the press service announced.

The report states that later the marine divisions of the Caspian Flotilla will be transferred from Crimea to the general military training ground in Dagestan.
