Russia is the only state among the G20 countries that wishes for Trump to win US presidential race

Russia is the only country in the G20 that, according to YouGov, prefers Donald Trump as president. Most other respondents would like to see Hillary Clinton win the US presidential race.

Among the major developed countries of the world, Russia is the only one that would like US Republican and billionaire Donald Trump to win the presidential elections. This follows from the results of a poll, conducted by the research company YouGov among 20 thousand adult respondents, that was commissioned by the German newspaper Handelsblatt. No Americans participated in the study, as it was a poll of the international opinion about the US domestic policy.

The majority of respondents made a choice in favor of the candidate of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton. She received top support from Mexico.

31% of Russian respondents would like Trump become the next president of the United States, while Clinton was supported by only 10%. Democrat Bernie Sanders and Republican Ted Cruz were chosen by only 1% of Russians.

At the end of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Trump the leader of the presidential race in the United States. "He's a very bright man, talented, no doubt. It's not our job to determine his merits, that's the job of the US voters, but he is an absolute leader of the presidential race," Putin said.

In response, the billionaire thanked Putin for the compliment. "It's always an honor to receive such a nice compliment from a man who is very respected in his home country and abroad," Trump said.

In March, during a presidential debate, Trump called Putin a stronger leader than the current US President Barack Obama. "If we are talking about Putin, I can tell you that he is a strong leader for Russia, far more than our leader. However, this does not mean that I support Putin," Trump said.

According to YouGov, Putin is the most trusted world leader to the Russians and second place is occupied by the Dalai Lama.

In the YouGov poll, respondents were asked a few more questions that were not related to politics. It was discovered that 79% of Russians are dissatisfied with their personal economic situation, while only 19% are satisfied with it. Only in South Korea were more respondents dissatisfied - 80%; and the most satisfied of the respondents was demonstrated in India - 63%.

At the same time, according to YouGov, Russians are optimistic about the future of their children. When asked whether the situation in the country will be better or worse for their descendants than for themselves, 45% of Russian respondents said it would be better, 20% said it will be worse and 22% believe that nothing will change. In this part of the survey, the most optimistic were the Chinese, 66% of them believe in a better future for their children; the most pessimistic country was France, 65% of the respondents felt that their children will have it worse than they did.
